  • Saturday, January 3 or Saturday, February 14, 10:00 am – 11:30 am – Introduction to Drop Spinning Workshop

    Discover the art of turning fiber into yarn in this one-day beginner workshop at Strawbery Banke in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Using a simple tool called a drop spindle, participants will learn the foundational techniques of hand spinning and gain an understanding of how fibers twist and form thread.

    Guided by a Museum Instructor, you’ll practice drafting and spinning and explore how to control thickness and twist. By the end of the session, you’ll take home both your drop spindle and the yarn you’ve spun.

    The Intro to Drop Spinning Workshop is designed for ages 16 and older and is suitable for beginners. Limited to 8 participants. Members $55; Nonmembers $65. Two dates are available – January 3 and February 14. Register at https://www.strawberybanke.org/adult-education

    ‘Tis the season for the 8th annual SoWa Winter Festival.

    The 8th Annual SoWa Winter Festival returns to the historic Power Station, 550 Harrison Avenue in Boston, for 15 days over four weekends this November and December. Shop from 100+ of the region’s best makers, artists, designers, and specialty food vendors, all assembled together under one festive roof.

  • Tuesday, December 1, 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm – Holiday Boxwood Trees

    It’s time to pull out the holiday greenery. Highfield Hall and Gardens will sponsor a workshop on Decmeber 1 from 5:30 – 8:30 on Holiday Boxwood Trees. Learn how to make this festive classic Christmas tree design using fresh boxwood branches with mini lights, ornaments and ribbon, with a tree topper. Your tree will last throughout the holidays. All materials are provided, but you are asked to bring a box to carry your tree home, a small pair of hand clippers, and of course, a mask. You’ll be able to select your decorations at the class. The workshop is taught by Anna Holmes. Please register EARLY! This popular class fills quickly & space is limited. $50 for Highfield Hall members, $60 for nonmembers. Highfield Hall is located at 56 Highfield Drive in Falmouth.

  • Saturday, January 27, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Family Art with Herbs: Foilography

    On Saturday, January 27 from 10 – noon, bring the whole family to Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, to try this fun, no-fail printmaking technique. Using a tabletop printing press, fresh herbs, inks and aluminum foil you will create multiple prints to use as artwork or handmade gifts.   • Saturday, October 26, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm – The Garnet Cabinet

    The Millers River Natural History Museum and Laboratory presents its inaugural show, The Garnet Cabinet, on October 26 in a new gallery at 100 Main Street in Athol, Massachusetts. The three-dimensional “cabinet” made by Royalston artist Donald Shambroom uses paintings, sculpture, and rhombic dodecahedrons constructed of cardboard by local crafters, to evoke the space under the earth’s crust where crystals formed more than 360 million years ago.  For more information visit www.atholbirdclub.org.   • Saturday, October 16, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm – Cogswell’s Grant Pumpkin Day

    Historic New England hosts the Cogswell’s Grant Pumpkin Day at Cogswell’s Grant in Essex, Massachusetts, from 11 – 4 on Saturday, October 16.  Celebrate the arrival of fall. Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, choose pumpkins to decorate, compete in a pumpkin pie-eating contest, do crafts, play games, and try cider pressing. Enjoy hot mulled apple cider and homemade pumpkin pie.   • Saturday, August 7, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Massachusetts Marketplace Festival

    Join the Massachusetts Horticultural Society for the Annual Massachusetts Marketplace Festival on Saturday, August 7, from 10 to 4, at Elm Bank Horticulture Center.  The event will feature the finest products from the region’s fields, farms, gardens and kitchens, with over 60 vendors offering new and locally produced food products, crafts, garden ornaments and gifts.  There will also be a plant sale and garden tours.  Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for MassHort members, and $2 for children under 12.  Tickets are available on site the day of the event.  Massachusetts Marketplace Festival is produced by MassHort with in-kind support from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources and the Massachusetts Specialty Food Association.  For more information, log on to www.masshort.org, or call  617-933-4981.

  • Saturday, May 15, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Spring Spectacular!

    Come to Natick Community Organic Farm on Saturday, May 15, from 10 – 3, rain or shine, for an old fashioned fair for the whole family, and seedling sale.  Enjoy live music by an all-youth line up of talented local performers, hayrides, nature based crafts, petting pasture, three-legged races, and other old fashioned games.  There will be wind-up boat races, talks, demonstrations, and workshops throughout the day on keeping chickens in your own backyard, organic bee keeping, composting with worms, and much more.  All this good food and outdoor fun will cost Natick Community GTarden members $6 for adults, $5 for children over 3, and nothing for children under 3.   • Friday, December 4, 5:00 – 7:30 pm – Holiday Marketplace Cocktail Party

    The Berkshire Botanical Garden will host a Holiday Marketplace Preview Cocktail Party on Friday, December 4, from 5:00 – 7:30 pm.  This is your chance to do some early buying of handcrafted wreaths, holiday decorations, seasonal blooms and greens, herb products, crafts and gift items.  The Holiday Marketplace itself begins Saturday, December 5 and runs through Sunday, December 6, from 10:00 am – 5 pm.  This event is part of Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas celebration.  Admission on Saturday and Sunday is free, but there will be a charge for the Cocktail Party.  Call 413-298-3926 for details and reservations.
