  • Saturday, October 24, 1 – 4 pm – Fall Family Fun

    Historic New England’s nearby Pierce House in Dorchester, Massachusetts will be the site of Fall Family Fun on Saturday, October 24, from 1 – 4 pm.  Enjoy craft activities and other hands-on opportunities connected to harvest time and the history of the Pierce House as a working farm. Families can make a leaf rubbing, design a pressed leaf card, practice spinning and weaving, and grind corn. Take a step back in time with Colonial clothing, toys, and games.   • Saturday, October 3 – Sunday, October 4 – Harvest Festival

    Enjoy the Harvest Festival at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, from 10:00 to 5:00, rain or shine.  There will be an Arts & Crafts Show, Barnyard Animals, 4-H Activities for children, Hay Rides, Pony Rides, a Master Gardeners Soil Testing Clinic, Garden Tours/The Crooked Path, food, and much more.  Adult Admission $5, Children under 10 free.  The event is sponsored by the Barnstable County Agricultural Society and the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension.  For more information, call 508-563-3200, or log on to www.barnstablecountyfair.org/harvestfest/index.html.

  • Saturday, September 12, noon – 4 pm – Jackson Hill Cider Day

    Enjoy children’s crafts, music, and demonstrations of spinning and cider pressing at Jackson House, 76 Northwest Street  in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.  The house itself, dating from 1664 and the oldest house in New Hampshire, is managed and maintained by Historic New England, and will be open for tours, and crafts and refreshments will be sold as well.  Free to Historic New England members, $6 for non-members, $3 children.  For more information, log on to www.historicnewengland.org, or call 603-435-3205 for directions.

  • Thursday, August 20 – Sunday, August 23 – Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Fair

    Come to an old fashioned country fair at 35 Panhandle Road in West Tisbury, Massachusetts on Thursday, August 20 through Sunday, August 23.  See livestock shows, a midway, entertainment, food vendors, a horse pull, a Woodsman’s Contest (sawing, ax throwing, log balancing – very cool), a dog show, fiber tent, games, and crafts.  Adult admission $8, Seniors and children $5.  For more information on times, call 508-693-4343.

  • Saturday, August 8, 10 – 4 – Massachusetts Marketplace Festival

    Join the Massachusetts Horticultural Society for the 13th Annual Massachusetts Marketplace Festival on Saturday, August 8, from 10 to 4, at Elm Bank Horticulture Center.  The event will feature the finest products from the region’s fields, farms, gardens and kitchens, with over 60 vendors offering new and locally produced food products, crafts, garden ornaments and gifts.  There will also be a plant sale and garden tours.  Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for MassHort members, and $2 for children under 12.  Tickets are available onsite the day of the event.  Massachusetts Marketplace Festival is produced by MassHort with in-kind support from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources and the Massachusetts Specialty Food Association.  For more information, log on to www.masshort.org, or call Kathy Thomas at 617-933-4981.
