    Wintherthur Museum, Garden & Library in Delaware invites you to an online floral design class on garden to vase bulb design. The session will take place July 15 from 5:30 – 5:30. Floral Supervisor Heidi Militana will celebrate H. F. du Pont’s use of nontraditional containers for his flower arrangements. Participants will pick up locally sourced flowers, containers, and supplies at Winterthur prior to the class, or you can call and discuss what to have on hand if you are unable to pick up. A virtual tour of the Flower Room will highlight different containers and pro tips for their mechanics.     Join the Millis Garden Club on Wednesday Jan 16 (snow date January 17) and learn how to create flower arrangements that reflect your own personal style.  Julie Pipe, Central South Director for the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and a member of the Holliston Garden Club, will present the program Finding Your Own Style. Using the color theme of Valentine’s Day she will discuss the mechanics, tools and flower choices required create table center pieces, a buffet table design and something a little different using an unusual container. So whether you already have a green thumb or aspire to have one you are invited to come and hone your skills.     The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts announces a series of three  hands-on Design Workshops for beginning and intermediate flower arrangers.  The first will take place Tuesday, October 16, from 10 – noon at a new location, the Hunnewell Building at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society’s Elm Bank in Wellesley.  Dates for the next two workshops are January 15 (snow date January 17) and April 9.  The fee for all three sessions is $125, and includes all materials and instruction.  No refunds will be given if you are unable to attend, but you may designate someone to attend in your place, or ask a friend who is attending to collect your flowers and container at the end of the class.  You will need to bring clippers, notebook, and a clean up bag.  Please mail your check, made out to GCFM, Inc., to Donna C.     Join award-winning floral arranger Lynne Merrill for a series of floral design classes at Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, 101 Ferry Road (Route 114) in Bristol, Rhode Island. During this four-week series, Lynne will provide tips for harvesting, cleaning, and conditioning flowers as well as basic instruction of flower arranging. Each week will highlight a different design principle, in order to explore various floral design trends in color, materials, and arrangement styles. Then, using your own artistic expression, you can create a take-home centerpiece each session. Students will be asked to bring your own containers and shears.

    The high cost of designer flowers may lead many to settle for less than spectacular displays, but don’t be fooled; amazing arrangements can be created without a steep price tag. On Monday July 16th, 2012 from 6:00PM-8:00PM, students at the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) will learn to craft beautiful, high quality floral displays for the price of a supermarket bouquet!

    In the BCAE’s brand new class, The Art of the Supermarket Bouquet, Instructor Janice Quinn will teach students how to create spectacular arrangements by deconstructing a supermarket bouquet and rebuilding it into a work of art. Students will also acquire the skills needed to replicate the work they see in local produce departments and farmer markets. All that’s needed is a vase brought from home and a little imagination.  Everyone loves the look and smell of floral arrangements and with the help of the BCAE it will be possible to create amazing bouquets for half the cost!
