  • Wednesdays, June 6, 13 & 20, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Hands-On Floral Design

    Bring a little bit of your garden indoors. In this Massachusetts Horticultural Society three-session class, in the Cheney Room of the Education Building at The Gardens at Elm Bank, learn how to arrange flowers that you may find in your garden and yard. Barbara Rietscha, owner of Stow Greenhouses in Stow, will bring seasonal flowers from her farm to the class and teach you how to condition and arrange them. In the first class, you will be creating an arrangement in a glass cylinder vase. The second class will teach you how to create a dining table centerpiece and for the third class bring your own vase to arrange in. Flowers for all sessions are provided as are vases for sessions 1 and 2. Bring your own flower cutters/scissors and a vase for session 3. Each evening you will go home with a beautiful arrangement of fresh, locally grown flowers. The dates of the class are Wednesdays, June 6, 13, and 20 from 7 – 9.

    Stow Greenhouses is a cut flower farm and floral design studio specializing in fresh-from-the-garden arrangements for weddings and special life events.   • Saturday, April 28, 9:30 am – 11:00 am – Creating a Landscape for Your Table

    On Saturday, April 28, from 9:30 – 11 at Hollister House Garden in Washington, Connecticut, learn how to create a landscape for your table that goes far beyond the usual cut flower arrangement. Well know designer and artist Chris Zaima will demonstrate the art of using miniature potted plants and succulents to make unique, sophisticated centerpieces. Following his talk and demonstration Chris will work with participants to create table landscapes to take home. Please bring your own container, suitable for a table centerpiece.     The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts  Ruth A Wallack Fund presents A Floral Journey from Afar with Francine Thomas, award winning designer and teacher, on Tuesday, April 24 at 10 am at the Regis College Fine Arts Center in Weston.  Tickets are $20.     Francine Thomas, from Tauranga in the North Island of New Zealand, is the Featured Designer at the 2018 lecture. Francine’s passion for flowers and Floral Art has taken her to many different heights. In 2010 Francine decided to start her own business called “A Floral Affair by Francine.” She joined the Tauranga Floral Art Group and became a qualified Teacher, Judge, Demonstrator, and Lecturer for the Floral Art Society and Consultant for florists. Since joining Floral Art, Francine has been Stage Hand for many well known designers; Irene Brockwell of Australia, Rob Platel from Holland, Gregor Lersch from Germany, Mark Pampling from Australia, Tomoki and Suri from Japan and many others.

    In 2016 Francine won New Zealand National Floral Art Designer of the Year, and was the National Demonstrator representing New Zealand at the WAFA World Show in Dublin, Ireland in 2014. She was Designer of the Year in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Bay of Plenty Art Festival. Francine has the Floral Art Society of New Zealand (FASNZ) diploma in Teaching, Judging and Demonstrating from the New Zealand Professional Florist Inc. (NZPF). Francine has an energetic sense of humor which can be contagious and which is evident in her shows. She is inspired by what she sees and feels inside, to come up with her ideas. She loves sharing those ideas to inspire other people to do the same.

  • Wednesday, April 18, 7:00 pm – It Must Be Spring

    The North Reading Garden Club will hold a benefit program on Wednesday, April 18 at 7 featuring Tony Todesco, floral designer, who will create a program entitled It Must Be Spring. Tony’s designs will be raffled off at the end of the show, along with gift baskets created by North Reading Garden Club members. Guests are welcome, $12 in advance, $15 at the door.   • Sunday, February 11, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Pot-et-Fleur

    Plant a lovely winter garden at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Sunday, February 11 from 1 – 3 with Betsy Williams. Garden indoors while you are waiting for the garden to return outdoors. A Pot-et-Fleur combines potted plants with fresh flowers in a decorative container. Flowering and tropical plants accented with lacy ferns, trailing ivies and fresh cut flowers become an enchanting table garden. With proper care, the plants will last for many months and the fresh flowers may be replaced when desired. Please bring floral scissors and an apron to class.     Betsy Williams teaches, lectures and writes about living with herbs and flowers. A gardener and herb grower since 1972, Betsy trained as a florist in Boston and England. She combines her floral and gardening skills with an extensive knowledge of history, plant lore and seasonal celebrations. Betsy is the author of several books on the uses and stories of herbs and flowers. She has appeared on the Discovery Channel and greater Boston cable stations as well as local and national radio talk shows. Betsy lectures and teaches locally and nationally.

    On Sunday, November 19, 1:30-3pm at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, join instructor Laura Jean Pecci, LJ Floral & Event Design (Cambridge) for a workshop on Thanksgiving centerpieces.
