  • Friday, May 16 – Sunday, May 18 – Plant Sale Weekend at The Farm at Gore Place

    Fill your garden with vegetable transplants, locally grown on the Farm at Gore Place. Choose from many varieties of hard-to-find heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, as well as peppers, eggplants, and herbs. Back this year: customer-favorite marigolds! This year’s sale takes place in-person, on-site at our Farm; there will be no online sales this year. The dates and times are May 16, 9 – 3, May 17, 9 – 5, and May 18, 9 – 12.

    It’s not just the great plants that make this sale special: Farmer Scott has been growing vegetables for almost 50 years. He has deep knowledge of these varieties and is onsite and ready to share! According to Scott, “We get lots of return customers.   • Friday, May 15 – Sunday, May 17 – Gore Place Plant Sale

    We’re changing things up at this year’s Gore Place plant sale. We’ll sell a large variety of tomato transplants, as well as peppers and eggplants, organically grown on our farm. Farmer Scott’s Heirloom Tomato Plant Sale will take place Friday and Saturday, May 15 & 16, from 8 – 4, and on Sunday, May 17, from 8 – noon, at 52 Gore Street in Waltham.

    Fill your garden with organic transplants direct from our farm. You’ll find many varieties of hard-to-find heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, as well as peppers and eggplants.

    It’s not only the large selection that makes this sale special; it’s also the chance to speak with Farmer Scott. Scott knows a lot about these varieties, and he’s eager to share his knowledge with you!

  • Saturday and Sunday, August 11 – 12, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Heirloom Tomatoes: Botanical Drawing in Color

    Heirloom tomatoes are the jewels of summer. In this two-day workshop at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on August 11 & 12 from 10 – 4, join botanical artist Helen Byers to draw their fascinating forms, rich colors, and surface and interior textures in detail. Helen’s demos, tips, and personalized instruction will guide students in practicing a technique of botanical drawing that combines colored pencil and watercolor.

    A supplies list will be sent to registrants. $150 for Tower Hill members, $165 for nonmembers. Register at www.towerhillbg.org.

    Helen Byers is an award-winning artist and educator whose botanical drawings and paintings have been internationally exhibited, published, and held in private collections. In recent years she has taught often at Tower Hill, as well as at Concord Center for the Visual Arts, Fruitlands Museums, Tin Mountain Conservation Center (NH), and Ghost Ranch Education & Retreat Center (NM).   • Tuesday, September 3, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Cocktails in the Garden and Tour

    On Tuesday, September 3, from 6 – 8, Volante Farms resident chef Todd Heberlein brings over a decade of farm to table cooking to Mass Hort for an evening of unique and flavorful, fresh from the garden small plates and refreshing drinks. Chef Todd will present guests with a selection of small plated, savory and sweet, that capitalize on the freshest tastes from Volante Farms Fields. Wander the gardens with seasonal treats in hand that might include some of Volante’s exclusive Cornetta peppers, house smoked bacon, heirloom tomatoes, and dozen of other unique flavors. Chef will also add a spark of local harvest to some refreshing beverages from water to wines to bubbly-all embellished by garden flavors. Join us for an evening to see the vegetable garden in its harvest glory and support and celebrate another season of horticultural and culinary cooperation for the benefit of our communities in need.   • Friday, March 23 – Sunday, March 25 – Mahoney’s Three-Day Educational Gardening Weekend

    Want the garden of your dreams? Jealous of your neighbor’s lawn? Love heirloom tomatoes? Convinced you’re a houseplant killer? Think terrariums look fun? Mahoney’s inspirational and educational gardening weekend has it all. This Friday, March 23 through Sunday, March 25, Mahoney’s Garden Centers’ Winchester location will host over 50 garden experts, designers and enthusiasts to help educate and kindle those ventures this spring.

    In this drop-in open house 3-day weekend, experts will be on-hand throughout the store with displays, educational tools and more, to help anyone succeed in the garden, lawn, patio and home. Also on hand will be many of Mahoney’s own experts in garden design, perennials, annuals and lawn care. Overwhelmed? Simply stop-in for a guided tour around Mahoney’s as they educate you on their vast grounds.

    “We’re trying to make gardening ‘pretty’ and ‘easy’ for everyone,” says Paul Waxman, Director of Marketing for Mahoney’s Garden Centers. “The event is 50% inspiration and 50% education – and with this early spring, the timing couldn’t be better!   • Saturday, May 14, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Garden Club of Buzzards Bay Plant Sale

    The Garden Club of Buzzards Bay will hold its annual plant sale at 783 Dartmouth Street in South Dartmouth on Saturday, May 14, from 9 – noon.  Admission and parking are free.   • Thursday, August 20, 5:30 pm – From Farm to Table: An Inspired Dinner at Tower Hill Botanic Garden

    Under the setting sun over Wachusett Reservoir, the culinary team of Pepper’s will offer an inspired evening featuring an enticing menu created in the tradition of the Slow Food Movement, with the best local raised or produced ingredients from area farms.  Proceeds from the evening support Tower Hill Botanic Garden.  Crystal Brook Farm from Sterling provides fresh goat cheese for the dessert.  The chefs also collaborate with Keown Farm of Sutton, Massachusetts and with John Lee from Allandale Farm in Brookline, Massachusetts, creating foods made from the best that nature has to offer.  John Trexler, Executive Director, will offer a spirited tour of Tower Hill Botanic Garden and dinner will follow.  The date is Thursday, August 20, beginning at 5:30 pm.  Members of Tower Hill – $100, $125 non-members.  Register on line at www.towerhillbg.org.  You may also call 508-869-6111, ext. 124 to register by phone, or email registrar@towerhillbg.org.

  • Sundays, June 14, 21 and 28, 10:00 a.m. – Sunday Morning in the Garden

    Each Sunday morning in June the experts at Old Sturbridge Village will conduct a meeting on the grounds of this treasured site.  On June 14, meet in the Herb Garden to hear about The Dangers of Herbs.  On June 21, Fashion in Flowers will be discussed at the garden near the Towne House.  June 28 brings Garden Pests and Problems at the Freeman Farmhouse kitchen garden. These programs are free with admission to Old Sturbridge Village.  Old Sturbridge Village is a “must-see” destination to experience early New England life from 1790-1840. One of the country’s largest living history museums, OSV has a large staff of historians in costume, 59 historic buildings on 200 acres, three authentic water-powered mills and two covered bridges.
