  • Monday, July 16, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – The Art of the Supermarket Bouquet

    The high cost of designer flowers may lead many to settle for less than spectacular displays, but don’t be fooled; amazing arrangements can be created without a steep price tag. On Monday July 16th, 2012 from 6:00PM-8:00PM, students at the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) will learn to craft beautiful, high quality floral displays for the price of a supermarket bouquet!

    In the BCAE’s brand new class, The Art of the Supermarket Bouquet, Instructor Janice Quinn will teach students how to create spectacular arrangements by deconstructing a supermarket bouquet and rebuilding it into a work of art. Students will also acquire the skills needed to replicate the work they see in local produce departments and farmer markets. All that’s needed is a vase brought from home and a little imagination.  Everyone loves the look and smell of floral arrangements and with the help of the BCAE it will be possible to create amazing bouquets for half the cost!

    The Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, Ruth A.   • Saturday, January 28, 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm – A Progressive Floral Feast

    Join Hazel Schroeder, Maureen Marshall, and Cathie Healey at Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Saturday, January 28, from 12 – 1:30. These highly decorated designers will teach participants how to create arrangements for each course of a progressive dinner party. They will use affordable flowers to create extraordinary arrangements to “wow” any guest. Enjoy tea, coffee and light refreshments as we watch and learn.   • Tuesday, December 6, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Music in Bloom

    Enjoy a totally new experience in the combined arts of floral design and music.  Priscilla Styer, floral design instructor and winning designer at the Boston Flower & Garden Show will be accompanied on the piano by Linda Paulet as Priscilla demonstrates her floral designs, providing a treat to both the senses and the spirit.  The program is presented by the Andover Garden Club and will take place Tuesday, December 6 from 10 am – noon at South Church, 41 Central Street in Andover.  No charge for Andover Garden Club members, $5 for guests.  Refreshments will be served.  For more information call 978-470-2627, or email bettychapman@verizon.net.

  • Tuesday, November 22, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Make it and Take it: Thanksgiving Floral Centerpiece

    In this Boston Center for Adult Education workshop you will learn the secret of professional floral designers.  Fresh seasonal flowers will be used to create a long-lasting centerpiece that will be the focus of your table or could be used as a gift.  Fall colors, leaves, and a re-usable container will be employed.  Go home with an impressive floral creation.  The workshop, taking place Tuesday, November 22, from 6 – 8, will cost $35, plus a materials cost of $18 (members of the BCAE pay $30 plus the materials cost), and the instructor is Laurie Marino.  You may sign up at www.bcae.org.  Image from www.tasteofhome.com.

     

  • Tuesday, October 11, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon – Design Workshop with Donna Morrissey

    Tuesday, October 11 will be the first class in a three part workshop with Garden Club of the Back Bay member Donna Morrissey.  The following two sessions will take place Tuesday, January 17 (snow date Wednesday, January 18), and Tuesday, April 10, 2012.  All three programs will be held from 10 – noon at the Espousal Center, 554 Lexington Street, North Waltham, Massachusetts, and are intended for beginning and intermediate flower arrangers.  The fee for all three sessions is $125, which includes all materials and instruction.  No refunds if you are unable to attend, although you may designate someone to attend in your place, or ask a friend who is attending to collect your flowers and container at the end of the class.  You need to supply clippers, notebook, and a clean-up bag.  Please mail your check, made out to GCFM,Inc. to Donna at 143 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton, MA 02467.

  • Saturday, June 18, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm – America’s Firsts

    Join WAFA USA in the Plaza Ballroom at the Seaport Hotel on Saturday, June 18, from 10 – 12:30 for a flower arranging demonstration entitled America’s Firsts, featuring Julie Clevett, Jane Godshalk, Julie Lapham, Lee LaPointe, Tasha Tobin (her arrangement pictured below), and Tony Todesco.  This event is a coveted second repeat presentation of one offered the day before which is currently sold out, so act quickly.  Tickets are $50 and may be purchased at www.wafausa.org.

    Learn the elements of floral design in a fresh new way, with award winning designer Julie Lapham of Julie Lapham Designs at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, Massachusetts.  All experience levels are welcome, and all materials, including container, plant material, and mechanics, are provided.  On Saturday, January 15, from 9:30 – 12 noon, Julie will conduct a class in Parallel Design.  Explore the creation of a parallel design, placing plant material and other components in a strong grouping.  Photo below courtesy of Julie Lapham Designs.  The fee is $60 for Tower Hill members, $65 for nonmembers, and you may register on line at www.towerhillbg.org.
