    On Tuesday, May 6 at 10 am, two favorite presenters, Elaine DiGiovanni and Linda Ladd, wrap up the Andover Garden Club year with their unique and delightful style of flower arranging in their ode to the seasons of spring and summer. These accredited Master Flower Show judges will display their many talents as they create six different designs representing these seasons, and lucky members may get to go home with one. Be sure to join them for this special pair of presenters and the annual meeting and luncheon. $10 donation requested.     The Garden Club of Norfolk presents Red, White and Blue: Our Presidents for You, a workshop led by Gail Tuveson and Jan Conklin. This year Gail and Jan will lead us in making an arrangement that will put a smile of the face of ole Abe and George. And again the design will be kept a secret until the last-minute!   • Wednesday, November 13, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Creative Winter Flower Arrangements

    The Wednesday, November 13 meeting of the Somerville Garden Club features a demonstration by experienced florist and gardener (and SGC member) Tom Sopko. Using the late-in-the-year plant materials found in our own back yards, Tom will create arrangements for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Winter. While building the arrangements, Tom will discuss texture, color, scale, plus practical considerations for successful, long-lasting floral arrangements. His creations will be added to the raffle that ends every SGC monthly meeting, which takes place at the Tufts Administration Building, 167 Holland Street, Second Floor, Somerville, from 7 – 9.

    The Somerville Garden Club meets the second Wednesday of every month; meetings are free and the public is invited to attend. Each meeting includes club announcements, a horticultural question-and-answer segment, a lecture and/or demonstration, and a raffle of donated plants and garden items.

    Parking is available onsite, and the building is a short walk from the Davis Square Redline T station. Meetings are on the second floor, wheelchair accessible.

    This fall Mass Hort will once again offer a six week course for anyone interested in learning the nuts and bolts of how to do a design for a flower show. This course is designed especially for those who would love to enter a flower show but are unsure of how to go about it or are timid and need support and encouragement. This course will be held in the Education Building at Elm Bank on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9pm from September 17th through October 22nd.

    Cost – $100.00 for Massachusetts Horticultural Society members, $100.00 for non-members. Register on line at www.masshort.org.

    Bring summer indoors! On Saturday, July 27, beginning at 10 am at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, we will  fill a tall glass container with fragrant, colorful herbs and garden flowers to make a lovely, fresh arrangement for your home. Herbs are not just green. Most have lovely flowers and make delightful, fragrant additions to fresh flower arrangements. Learn when and how to cut garden flowers for arranging, what “green” herbs make great fillers and how, if necessary, to select cut herbal flowers from the florist. All supplies and materials provided by teacher Betsy Williams.   • Tuesday, April 9, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – An Evening with Steve Janivicus

    Steve Janivicus, one of the top 100 FTD florists in the country, will demonstrate his arranging skills at this Danvers Garden Club event on Tuesday, April 9 from 6 – 9, to be held at the Danversport Yacht Club, 161 Elliott Street in Danvers.  All arrangements will be raffled off at the end of the evening.  Coffee, tea and desserts will be served, and there is shopping at special boutiques.  Tickets $25, and reserved tables of eight or ten are available.  Contact Jacquie at 508-932-1320, or at Uconnmom09@verizon.net to reserve.

    The Japan Society of Boston and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston present The 2013 Rad Smith Program in Art: Celebrating 550 Years of Ikenobo Ikebana, featuring 45th Generation Headmaster Sen’ei Ikenobo and 46th Generation Headmaster Designate Yuki Ikenobo, on Sunday, March 10, from 3 – 4:30 at the Remis Auditorium of the Museum of Fine Arts. Commemorate the auspicious occasion of the 550th year since Ikenobo, a highlight of Japanese aesthetics, first appeared in public records. Ikenobo is the original school fo Ikebana, Japanese traditional flower arranging. The 45th Generation Headmaster, Sen’ei Ikenobo, talks briefly about Ikebana and Japanese traditional culture, and 46th Generation Headmaster Designate, Yuki Ikenobo, presents an Ikebana demonstration. Followed by a Mawari-ike ceremony, a traditional Ikebana-judged competition.  Tickets ($15 MFA members, seniors and students, $18 non members)  are available on line at www.mfa.org.

    Join the Millis Garden Club on Wednesday Jan 16 (snow date January 17) and learn how to create flower arrangements that reflect your own personal style.  Julie Pipe, Central South Director for the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts and a member of the Holliston Garden Club, will present the program Finding Your Own Style. Using the color theme of Valentine’s Day she will discuss the mechanics, tools and flower choices required create table center pieces, a buffet table design and something a little different using an unusual container. So whether you already have a green thumb or aspire to have one you are invited to come and hone your skills. The program will begin at 7 pm at the Millis Town Hall, 900 Main Street, Room 130, in Millis, and is free. Call 508-376-6250 if the weather is questionable.

    Plant a fragrant and festive garden for holiday decorating. Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston, will host instructor Betsy Williams for a workshop entitled Holiday Table Garden. We’ll combine chartreuse-colored, lemon-scented cypress trees with small evergreens, trailing ivies, white flowering plants and club moss in an attractive container. The garden is a beautiful, natural and, with proper care, long-lasting addition to your celebrations. Please bring an apron and floral scissors to class.
