    Calling all floral-minded artists, garden club members, horticultural students, gardeners, and professional and novice designers! For information about how to submit your designs to the show, visit https://goreplace.org/whats-on/house-in-bloom.     In collaboration with the Waltham Garden Club, Gore Place is very pleased to announce the return of its annual flower show, to be held this year on September 30 from 10 – 3. This is a rare opportunity to experience the spectacular 1806 Gore Mansion filled with classical and contemporary floral designs displayed throughout the 12 first-floor rooms. Each designer will create an arrangement inspired by the historic home’s beautiful architecture and furnishings. Visitors will walk through the house at their own pace. Shopping bags from our Handmade for the Holidays crafts fair must be left at the door and no food or drink is allowed.

  • Saturday, August 5, and Saturday, September 2, 11:00 am – Tree Tour at Gore Place

    We’ll leave no branch unturned in this tour of trees at Gore Place.  Join us on August 5 or September 2 as we get to the root of both the science and history of individual trees and species on our grounds. Along the way, we’ll point out some of the most noticeable and iconic trees near our historic mansion and you’ll learn the basics of identifying trees. Hopefully, our educators won’t be stumped by any of your questions.

    This tour will take place outdoors for an hour.  We will be walking over a combination of gravel paths and potentially wet, gently rolling lawn. Please wear footwear you will be comfortable in and dress for the weather. The tour is designed for adults; however, we welcome youth aged six and up to join us. This program is rain or shine but we will cancel for extreme inclement weather.

    Advance tickets are required. Ample free parking. $16 for adults, free for Gore Place members, $11 students aged 6 – 16. Additional sessions will take place October 7, November 4, and December 2. Get tickets at www.goreplace.org

  • Friday, September 16, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, and Saturday, September 17, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – House in Bloom: The Return of the Gore Place Flower Show

    Enjoy the first day exhibition of beautiful floral arrangements inspired by the elegant decor of the 1806 Gore Place mansion, 52 Gore Street in Waltham, and displayed throughout the first-floor entertainment suites, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants include members of the Waltham Garden Club.

    Saturday’s Show hours, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., coincide with the “6th Annual Handmade for the Holidays Crafts Fair,”  in a relaxing, outdoor atmosphere, where you’ll be able to get a head start on your holiday shopping!

  • Sunday, July 11, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Jane Austen Garden Party at Gore Place

    Gore Place presents the Jane Austen Garden Party on the grounds of their beautiful 19th-century estate in Waltham—a site fit to be the setting for one of the celebrated author’s famous novels.

    Ticket for the July 11 event, which begins at 2 pm, includes an individual box with sweets and savories, a bottle of lemonade (add a mini bottle of wine for $10 more), archery, lawn games, and a viewing of the ground floor of the fabulous Gore Mansion. Regency Period dress encouraged, with a prize for the best dressed!

    The party starts under the spacious Century Tent. Tables and chairs will be provided, but you may bring your own lawn chairs or picnic blankets if you wish. There will be ample free parking. The entire site is accessible, and modern indoor restrooms will be available. Masks required indoors.

    Gore Place will present the Jane Austen Garden Party on Sunday, September 13 on the grounds of their beautiful 19th-century estate—a site fit for one of the celebrated author’s famous novels.

    Event ticket includes: An individual showcase box with sweets and savories from Vicki Lee’s Bakeshop, a bottle of Vicki’s own lemonade or tea (add a mini bottle of wine for $10 more), an archery lesson led by On the Mark Archery, lawn games and an outdoor guided tour of the grounds.

    The party starts under the spacious Century Tent. Tables and chairs will be provided, but you may bring your own lawn chairs or picnic blankets, if you wish. There will be ample free parking. The entire site is accessible, and modern indoor restrooms will be available. Costumes encouraged, masks required.

    Coronavirus prevention safety precautions:  We will provide hand sanitizing stations. Masks are required. All guests ages seven years old and up must wear masks or face coverings while not socially distancing. All staff and volunteers will wear masks or face coverings and gloves (if handling food).

    Capacity of the tent will not exceed 50 guests. Tables and chairs will be spread out in the tent to maintain social distancing. Guests must sit within their own party, at least six feet away from other guests not in their party.

    Cost is $35/pp ($45/pp with a mini bottle of wine. IDs will be checked at the event for anyone ordering wine.) Member discounts available. Capacity is limited.   • Sundays, August 9, 16, and 23, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Summer Corn Roast at Gore Place

    On three consecutive Sundays (August 9, 16 and 23), from 4 – 7, you can celebrate the sweet corn season during the Corn Roast at Gore Place, the historic agrarian landscape at 52 Gore Street in Waltham, Massachusetts.

    Purchase roasted corn freshly picked from local farms. Live music is planned. Masks and social distancing required. Bring your own picnic blanket or other lawn seating or make purchase and take away.

  • Thursday, July 16, 7:00 pm – Raising Sheep at Gore Place Farm Webinar

    Gore Place, the historic agrarian site in Waltham, will host a free webinar on July 16 at 7 pm all about the sheep on their farm.

    Director of Interpretation and Programs Thom Roach will be joined by Director of Farm and Landscape Operations Scott Clarke for a lively discussion covering the challenges of raising a heritage breed of sheep and the recent shearing of the sheep by master shearer Kevin Ford. Emily Robertson will moderate.

    The webinar will take place on the Zoom platform and attendees may submit their questions throughout the discussion. This will be the third in a series of free webinars hosted by Gore Place.

  • Friday, June 12, 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm – Spring into Summer Party Postponed

    Enjoy a blooming evening on Friday, June 12 from 6- 9, at Gore Place’s 5th Annual Spring into Summer gala fund raiser.

    This year marks the 85th anniversary of the founding of Gore Place Society. Over a few short days in May 1935, four prominent organizations led by some fierce Boston preservationists raced to save the estate from a developer. Thanks to their efforts, Gore Place not only survived, but is slowly but surely being restored to its original magnificence.

    Come celebrate this milestone at the 5th annual Spring into Summer party on Friday, June 12, 2020. This event will honor Charlotte Patten, an ardent supporter of Gore Place. Enjoy cocktails in the elegant 1806 Mansion, followed by dinner and dancing in the tent to the music of the Bo and Bill Winiker Orchestra.

  • Sunday, October 6, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Fiddlers on the Farm

    New England has a great fiddle-music tradition drawing from Celtic, English, French and Scandinavian traditions. Fiddlers on the Farm on October 6 from 1 – 4 at Gore Place in Waltham highlights these deep traditions with performances by some of the region’s finest traditional musicians.

    This year’s performers include Scottish fiddling with Emerald Rae and Quebecoise music from Yann Falquet, Adrienne Howard, Eric Boodman and Jonathan Cannon. Bring your instrument and join in an open jam following the performances.

    Tickets are $10 all ages (Gore Place members and children ages 5 and under are admitted free). Children must be accompanied by an adult.

    Friday, May 17 – Sunday, May 19 – Gore Place Plant Sale

    This year’s offerings at the Gore Place Plant Sale May 17 – 19 feature vegetable garden transplants including many varieties of hard-to-find hybrid and heirloom tomatoes, heirloom annuals, herbs, and beautiful perennials.

    It’s not only the large selection that makes this sale special; it’s also the chance to speak with gardener Scott Clarke. Scott knows a lot about these varieties, and he’s eager to share his knowledge with you! Friday and Saturday, May 17 and 18 from 8 am to 4 pm and Sunday, May 19 from 8am to 1pm, at 52 Gore Street in Waltham.

    Please, bring your own box for transporting your purchases. Free to attend.
