    Celebrate the sweet corn season at the Gore Place Farm Stand on three August Sundays, August 12, 19, and 26, from 2 – 5. Enjoy roasted corn freshly picked from local farms, drink lemonade and play games on the lawn in front of the farmer’s cottage. Admission to this event is free. Food and beverages sold individually.   • Thursday, June 14, 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Friday & Saturday, June 15 & 16, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm – Be Inspired: Floral Design Show at Gore Place

    Join a celebration of early summer at Gore Place, 52 Gore Street in Waltham, on Thursday, June 14 from 4 – 8, and Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16, from 10 – 3, with beautiful floral designs in 15 rooms of the magnificent 1806 Gore mansion. The mansion is called “The Monticello of the North” and its lovely rooms inspire local floral designers in this annual event. Visitors vote for their favorite arrangements.   • Friday, May 11 & Saturday, May 12, 8:00 am – 3:00 pm, & Sunday, May 13, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon – The Gore Place Plant Sale

    This year’s Gore Place Plant Sale offerings feature vegetable garden transplants including many varieties of hard-to-find hybrid and heirloom tomatoes, heirloom annuals, herbs, and beautiful perennials. The free weekend event takes place Friday and Saturday, May 11 & 12, from 8 – 3, and Sunday, May 13, from 9 – noon.

    It’s not only the large selection that makes this sale special; it’s also the chance to speak with gardener Scott Clarke. Scott knows a lot about these varieties, and he’s eager to share his knowledge with you! Everyone is encouraged to bring their own box for transporting their purchases.   • Thursday, June 8 – Saturday, June 10 – “Be Inspired”: A Celebration of Floral Design

    Please join the Gore Place Society this June to celebrate Spring into Summer.  “The Monticello of the North” will host an elegant cocktail party and dinner the first evening of the three day event which will bring a wonderful audience to Waltham.  The preview cocktail party and dinner in the tent take place Thursday, June 8 – reservations required.  The public exhibition begins Friday, June 9 from 10 – 5, and will include Beer and Blooms.  The public exhibition continues Saturday from 10 – 4, and reservations will be required for Saturday’s Tea in the Carriage House.

    The show is open to all floral minded artists, garden club members, horticultural students, gardeners, and professional and novice designers.  This is NOT a juried show.  There is no entry fee for this exhibition.  All submissions are required to be refreshed as needed for the duration of the three day show.  All work must comply with the guidelines.  All designers will receive a $25 participation award and one complimentary ticket for the preview cocktail party.  Designers may purchase an additional cocktail party ticket.  To participate, email scottclarke249@gmail.com or call 781-894-2798 no later than April 1, with your name and contact information.  Spaces are limited.

    There will be a change for a People’s Choice Award for all designers.  Visitors will vote for their favorite flower arrangement, and there will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.  The award, minus the $25 Participation Award, is $100 for 1st, $75 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd.

  • Saturday, September 24, 12:00 noon – 5:00 pm – Gore Place Fall Festival

    Come celebrate fall with delicious local food, local craft beers, live local bands and entertainment for the kids. The 50-acre Gore Place estate in Waltham will be the perfect site for this “new tradition”. Tickets are just $10 adults (food and drink sold separately). Kids 12 and under and Gore Place members admitted free. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets allowed. Free parking onsite.  Beer by Cape Ann Brewing Company and Hopsters.     This year’s Gore Place offerings feature vegetable garden transplants, including more than 30 varieties of hard-to-find hybrid and heirloom tomatoes. The sale includes culinary herbs, select annual flower varieties, and beautiful hanging baskets.  It’s not only the large selection that makes this sale special; it’s also the chance to speak with gardener Scott Clarke. Scott knows a lot about these varieties, and he’s eager to share his knowledge with you!

    Hours are 9am to 4pm, May 27 – May 29, rain or shine.  All are encouraged to bring their own boxes for transporting their purchases. Gore Place members receive a discount, so remember to bring your membership cards!

    If you would like to get a jump on purchasing tomato plants, they are available for pre-order at $5 per 4-pack. To order, print out the selection list and mail it to 52 Gore St., Waltham, MA 02453. All tomatoes are pick-up only on May 21 from 10-3pm, and fees will be collected upon pick-up. Plants cannot be shipped or picked up early. Any tomatoes not picked up will be sold at the Spring Plant Sale the following weekend.   • Saturday, May 21, 10:00 am – 11:30 am – Planting Inside the Box (Raised Beds)

    There are a multitude of benefits to planting inside the box. Raised beds provide gardeners the opportunity to tailor the soil mixture, extend the growing season, deter weeds and pests, and plant a custom design. In this Gore Place workshop on Saturday, May 21 at 10 am, long-time farmer Scott Clarke will demonstrate techniques for planting flowers and vegetables in a raised bed.

    Learn how to lay out a square-foot garden, choose plants that are good companions, make use of vertical space, and plant directly into a bale of hay. Explore ways to develop the soil without the use of synthetic fertilizers so that your soil can feed the plants and vice versa. Come ready to dig in and cultivate ideas for your own home garden!   • Saturday, April 23, 10:00 am – 12:00 noon and 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm – Living Salad Bowl Workshop

    At this Gore Place workshop on April 23, noted gardener and floral designer Scott Clarke will teach you how to make a beautiful and edible arrangement. There will be two sessions, one from 10 – noon and a second from 12:30 – 2:30.

    You will plant a living salad bowl with a wonderful variety of greens including red and green leaf lettuce, chard, and spicy micro greens, all cut-and-come-again varieties. Enjoy your salad fixings all season long!

    Appropriate organic soil, container, and transplants will be provided. Space is limited to 20 participants per session.

  • Tuesday, November 24, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Thanksgiving Centerpiece Workshop

    In this Tuesday, November 24 workshop, from 6 – 8, Scott Clarke, a noted gardener and floral designer, will help you create a Thanksgiving centerpiece to adorn your dinner table. Learn how to prepare flowers for arranging, the art of creating a compelling design, and tips for extending the longevity of your creation.

    All materials will be provided including fresh flowers, grasses, and seasonal elements. No experience needed. $80 per person, $60 for Members of Gore Place. Gore Place is located at 52 Gore Street in Waltham.
