  • Friday, June 4 – Saturday, June 5, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm – Cape Cod Rhododendron Festival and Garden Tours

    A new event on Cape Cod this spring is a two-day Rhododendron Festival on Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5, from 10 – 4, co-sponsored by Heritage Museums and Gardens and the Thornton W. Burgess Society.

    Private homes in Sandwich, Cotuit and Osterville open their gardens to the public. *(Garden tour locations noted after ticket purchase.)*

    The festival also offers a rare rhododendron auction, plant sale, book signings, exhibits and lectures.  The auction, plant sale, and lectures will be held at Heritage Museums and Gardens, Pine Street, Sandwich, Massachusetts.

    Tickets at $30 may be used both days and may be purchased at Heritage Museums or at Green Briar Nature Center.

    Help celebrate the opening of The Polly Hill Arboretum Visitor Center with the annual Memorial Day Plant Sale. Whether you’re a budding gardener or a seasoned veteran, this plant sale will have something for you. Arboretum staff have chosen and grown plants that are noted not only for their superior ornamental qualities but also for their adaptability to Martha’s Vineyard. He will begin with a talk in the Far Barn, followed by a walking tour of the grounds to view plants growing in the Arboretum’s collections.  Free.

  • Saturday, May 22, 10:00 am -4:00 pm – Mass Hort and Society Row Plant Sale at Elm Bank

    On Saturday, May 22, from 10 – 4,  the Massachusetts Horticultural Society will hold the Mass Hort and Society Row Plant Sale, featuring thousands of perennials, two dozen local plant societies, children’s activities, garden tours, plant demo stage and the Master Gardener Help Desk.  The public really can “Ask the Experts” and add to their collections of rare and unusual plants sold by the growers themselves, and purchase items from a number of specially selected vendors.   Browse the historic beauty of the Chaney-Baltzell mansion, while enjoying the beautiful rhododendron show,  This is a free event.  For more information, log on to www.masshort.org.   • Saturday, May 15, Friday & Saturday, May 21 – 22, and Saturday, May 29, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm – Annual Garden Plant Sale at Gore Place

  • Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, April 30 – May 30, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm – Children’s Miracle Network Plant Sale

    Plan to attend a plant sale to benefit Children’s Miracle Network for Children’s Hospital, Boston.  The sale, to be held in the Costco parking lot, 120 Stockwell Drive, Avon, will run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 30, from 10 – 5 each day.  The sale, run by the Costco employees, will include 45 types of perennials, plus herbs and veggies.  Volunteers are needed.  People who would like to spend a few hours sharing knowledge of plants will receive a shopping pass to Costco Avon, free parking, and a voucher for lunch at the food court.  Call Ed Pope, Assistant Manager, at 508-232-4001 if you wish to help.  You may also email crazyplantlady@aarontarver.org.  Free admission to the sale, naturally, and you’ll help the employees raise their target contribution of $10,000 for a very good cause.

  • Saturday, October 17, 10:30 am – Bay State African Violet Society Annual Meeting and Plant Sale

    The Annual Meeting of the Bay State African Violet Society will be held Saturday, October 17, beginning at 10:30 am at the Parish of St. Michael, Bedford, Massachusetts.  Following the plant sale, there will be a luncheon beginning at 12:30 with a guest speaker addressing members on special issues in cultivating African violets.  In addition, this year there will be a panel of experts to answer your questions.

    The Bay State African Violet Society was organized in 1959, as an affiliate of the African Violet Society of America (AVSA), the national organization for African Violet enthusiasts. BSAVS provides a forum for lovers of African violets to share their interest in the propagation and culture of these beautiful gesneriads.

    As a member, you will receive four issues of the Society’s official newsletter, Ye Bay Stater. You also become eligible to enter your plants and designs in our African violet shows, sanctioned by the African Violet Society of America.

    Activities include the annual Spring Flower Show and Sale; the annual Meeting in October with a program on AVs presented by a well-known speaker; and other activities such as potting clinics.  All offer the opportunity to socialize with and learn from other violet enthusiasts.  For more information, log on to www.baystateafricanviolet.org.
