  • Friday, September 20, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and Saturday, September 21, 8:00 am – 12:00 noon – Middlesex Conservation District Fall Plant Sale

    The Middlesex Conservation District will hold its annual Fall Plant Sale on Friday, September 20 from 3 – 6 pm, and on Saturday, September 21 from 8 am – noon at the 4H Fairgrounds, 51 South Chelmsford Road in Westford.  All items may be ordered in advance through August 30, including tulips, daffodils, specialty bulbs, perennials and garden supplies.  All proceeds support the District’s environmental programs protecting soils and waters in Middlesex County.  If you would like a sales brochure, please  visit www.middlesexconservation.org to obtain an order form and view selections.  Photo from www.burpee.com.

    This year, the Gore Farm plant sale will feature vegetable garden transplants with 25 varieties of tomatoes, including hard-to-find heirlooms; culinary herbs; select, annual flower varieties; and beautiful hanging baskets.   • Wednesday, May 15, 8:00 am – 12:00 noon – Lexington Field & Garden Club’s Annual Plant Sale

    The Lexington Field & Garden Club’s Annual Plant Sale will be held rain or shine on Wednesday, May 15, from 8 am – noon at the Heritage Museum, 33 Marrett Road in Lexington.

    A variety of perennial plants from Club members’ own gardens as well as herbs and annuals will be available for purchase. Club members will be available to offer expert gardening advice. Gardening gloves, aprons, used tools and houseplants will also be sold.

    Come one, come all to the annual Natick Garden Club Plant Auction on Thursday, May 16, beginning at 6:30 pm at the Natick Community/Senior Center, 117 East Central Street in Natick. The sale features plants from members’ gardens, plus door prizes raffled off during the evening.   • Saturday, September 22, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Sunday, September 23, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm – Annual Begonia and Gesneriad Show & Plant Sale

    The Annual Begonia and Gesneriad Show & Plant Sale, presented by the Buxton Branch of the American Begonia Society and the New England Chapter of The Gesneriad Society, will take place September 22 and 23 at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive in Boylston.  See splendid examples of a variety of begonias and gesneriads in this judged show.  You may enter your own plants by contacting the show coordinators listed below.  And you will be able to buy plants, since both societies will be selling a wide selection of begonias and gesneriads, sporting a range of color, leaf texture, and patterns.  Expand your plant palette with splashes of color and foliage for homes and greenhouses that last long after frosts have put outdoor gardens to bed.  Lectures and programs will run throughout the weekend, also.  On Saturday at 11 am, Tony Pinto  will speak on Travel, Plant, and Fish Photography. Tony is an avid photographer whose photographs of begonias are often featured in The Begonian, the publication of the American Begonia Society. Tony will talk about his travels to remote destinations such as Asia and Africa, and photographing plants and fish in their natural habitats.  At 1 pm, Henrietta Light presents Show and Tell: My Experiences with Seven of My Favorite Begonias.  Henrietta has exceptional talent growing a variety of begonias, including ‘Yanonali,’ scharffii, procumbens, ‘Erythrophylla,’ listada, acetosa, and solananthera.
