  • Saturday, September 15, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Perennial and House Plant Sale

    The Somerville Garden Club will hold a perennial and house plant sale on Saturday, September 15, from 9 – 1 at Statue Park in Davis Square, at the intersection of College Avenue and Holland Streets in Somerville, across from the Red Line Davis Square MBTA stop. Perennials for sun and shade, herbs, ground covers, shrubs, and houseplants–every gardener will find a treasure among the hundreds of plants for sale. Somerville Garden Club members and friends of the club donate both reliable, and sometimes rare, favorites from their own gardens for others to get to know and enjoy.  Proceeds support the programs and citywide public plantings of the Somerville Garden Club.   • Saturday, August 18, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon – Cathedral’s Annual Plant Sale, Gardening Talk, and Childrens Program

    Cathedral of the Pines, 10 Hale Hill Road in Rindge, New Hampshire, is sponsoring its annual plant sale on Saturday, August 18 from 9 – noon.  Carl Majewski, Cheshire County Extension Agent, will speak from 9:30 – 11 on Nurturing Your Gardens: Composting, Mulching and Amendments.  At 10 am, a children’s program entitled Mystery of the Pines will have children observe different objects in their “home” surroundings and create a story.  Free.  For directions, visit www.cathedralofthepines.org.

  • Friday, June 1 – Sunday, June 3 – Perennials Sale at the Lyman Estates Greenhouses

  • Saturday, June 2, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm – Rockport Garden Club Plant Sale

    The Rockport Garden Club invites you to its annual Plant Sale at the Community House, 58 Broadway in Rockport, on Saturday, June 2, from 9 – 1. A wide selection of annuals, perennials, shrubs, herbs, bulbs, house plants, and vegetable seedlings will be available. Proceeds fund planting and maintenance of Rockport’s thirteen town gardens, various civic projects and several scholarships.   • Sunday, May 20, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Dahlia Tuber Auction and Plant Sale

    The Rhode Island Dahlia Society will hold its Annual Tuber Auction and Plant Sale on Sunday, May 20, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the North Kingstown Community Center, 30 Beach Street, Wickford (North Kingstown), Rhode Island.  Most of the varieties offered at this sale are exhibition quality dahlias and are not available at your local garden center. The tubers and plants are donated by local growers and society members who come from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut.  There is something for everyone: From giants to miniatures, representatives of the 18 different forms of dahlias in an array of colors will be available.For more information, call Donna at 781-769-3854.

  • Saturday, May 12, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm – New England Daylily Society Plant Sale and Auction

    The New England Daylily Society will host its annual Plant Sale and Auction on Saturday, May 12, at the Wakefield-Lynnfield Masonic Building, 372 Salem Street in Wakefield.  There will be a “members only” sale from 9 – 10, followed by the public sale from 10 – 1:30, and a live auction beginning at 2 pm.  Attendance door prizes will be drawn just prior to the auction, and there is ample parking to the rear of the building.  You will find many rarities , hard to locate hybrids of many different colors, and people able to assist with information about the characteristics of particular hybrids.  Great bargains will be available, as well.  The New England Daylily Society is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the promotion of the daylily flower and to further public education about daylilies.  For additional information on this and other NEDS events, visit www.nedaylily.org.

    Visit the Acton Center Common on Saturday, May 19, from 9 – 1, and support the Acton Garden Club’s Annual Plant Sale.  Over 2,000 plants will be available – annuals, shrubs, herbs, choice rare plants, ground covers, succulents, vegetables, water-wise plants, and hundreds of locally grown perennials.

  • Saturday, February 25, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Hot Scaping with Succulents, Orchids and More

    Investigate the trend of gardening with plants from around the world, in a demonstration/workshop to be held at Berkshire Botanical Garden on Saturday, February 25, from 1 – 3.  Consider agaves and other succulents as low maintenance patio plants that double as houseplants for the winter months. Learn about orchids and how to care for these exotic beauties. Practical information on selection, cultivation, maintenance and overwintering will be covered, with a focus on keeping plants beautiful and healthy. Students will practice dividing and repotting a variety of specimen plants and take home divisions to grow on. Materials are included in the cost of the workshop (BBG members $37, non-members $45), but please bring gloves, pruners, and a cardboard box to transport your plants home.  Additional plants will be for sale following the class.  To register, visit www.berkshirebotanical.org.

    Rob Gennari is a garden designer and owner of Glendale Botanicals, a specialty tropical nursery located in Berkshire County. He uses tropical plants in his design work and has in-depth experience with propagating, growing, and maintaining these plants.

    It’s a great time to plant and get some deals on plants on Friday, July 29 – Sunday, July 31, from 9:30 – 4.  All the hosta, perennial, herb and annual plants at the greenhouses at Historic New England’s Lyman Estate are heavily discounted for this weekend sale.  The expert staff will help you choose plants for your garden conditions.  For those of you who await the Fall Clearance Sale, please not that this is the Fall Clearance Sale, moved up to July.  The Lyman Estate Greenhouses are located at 185 Lyman Street in Waltham, and there is free admission.  For more information, call 781-891-1985.
